Disclosure & Privacy

This page exists for two reasons: legal compliance (EU and US affiliate disclosure rules), and reader trust. We’d rather you know exactly how we work than hide anything.

Affiliate referrals are the primary way this publication makes money. The how, the why, and what we won’t do — explained below in plain English.

Affiliate links

Some links on this site are affiliate links. When you click through and make a purchase, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. The price you pay is identical whether you use our link or go direct.

The companies whose affiliate programmes we use include (but are not limited to):

  • Travel insurance: SafetyWing, Genki, Heymondo, Pacific Cross, LUMA Health
  • Money & banking: Wise
  • Connectivity: Holafly, Airalo, NordVPN
  • Bookings: Agoda, Booking.com, Klook, GetYourGuide, Hostelworld
  • Transport: Skyscanner, 12Go Asia
  • Coliving: Outsite
  • Hosting & tools: Hostinger, Beehiiv, Kadence

This list expands as we add programmes. If we recommend a product on the site, assume the link may be affiliate unless explicitly stated otherwise.

How affiliate works in practice

A clarification because the difference matters:

A sponsor pays a publisher upfront, regardless of whether anyone buys. The sponsor typically gets editorial influence in exchange. We don’t accept sponsorship.

An affiliate pays a publisher only when a reader independently decides to buy. The affiliate company has zero editorial influence over what we write. They can’t ask us to write a positive review. They can’t restrict us from recommending competitors. They pay only on conversions readers themselves choose to make.

This means our incentives stay aligned with yours: we only earn when you find the recommendation useful enough to buy. Recommending bad products hurts our credibility and our bottom line. Recommending good products helps both of us.

What we won’t do

  • Recommend products we wouldn’t send to a friend
  • Accept payment to write positive reviews of products we don’t use
  • Run sponsored content disguised as editorial recommendation
  • Accept paid guest posts from visa agents, brokers, or service providers
  • Inflate ratings or recommendations to drive commission
  • Take advertising or display ads
  • Hide affiliate relationships behind cloaked links

If you ever spot us breaking these rules, email hello@betterinthailand.com and we’ll correct it. The honest publication brand only works if we keep it that way.

Direct products (no affiliate involved)

We sell digital products — itinerary packs, guides, workbooks, and the TDAC + Visa Reminder Service — listed at /products. These are direct sales (no affiliate involved) and the proceeds fund site operations.
